Font Notes:
Described and illustrated in Roe (1968: [69]-72 and pl. XXVIII, XXIX): octagonal mounted baptismal font whose origin Cogan [cf. Author notes below] attributes to the old church of Timoole; it consists of two pieces: an octagonal basin with vertical sides and a 45-degree chamfered underbowl, and a narrower base rhoughly in the shape of an octagonal truncated pyramid; the font has no apparent drain; there is an inscription that runs all around the upper basin side, all on one line except on the eighth side where it continues on another two lines. Roe (ibid.) goes into the possible identification of the "Robare Holiwod", Robert Hollywood, perhaps a lay proctor. The date on the inscription is 1597. Described in Pike (1989: 51-52), -after Roe- who mentions that it was placed in the porch and served as a holy-water stoup ca. 1989]. It is octagonal and has no central drain. The conical octagonal base is reconstructed. Included also in the Draft Development Plan from the County [source: www.meath.ie/DraftDevPlan/Volume3/1_4.htm].
