Described and illustrated in Roe (1968: [47]-48 and pl. XIX, XX): octagonal baptismal font dated to 1579 by an inscription, probably a 16th-century replacement of the earlier font in the old church. The font had already been noted in 1740 by Isaac Butler in his visit to the medieval parish, as Roe (ibid.) and Pike (1989: 36, 51) [after Roe] note. The base is square at the bottom but bevelled at the stem making it octagonal to match the botom of the basin. The plinth in which it now stands is modern. Roe (ibid.) comments, referring to the set of initials that accompanies the date, that "a connection with some members of the respected families of Brady and Weston might be conjectured" [NB: Roe explains that Hugh Brady was the first Protestant bishop of Meath and was born in Dunboyne; also that his wife, Alice Weston, was buried in 1585 in the old churchyard]
