Described and illustrated in Roe (1968: [25]-27): octagonal mounted baptismal font of uncertain origin; the font was brought into the present church at Bective in 1953 by canon Athey from the gardens at Bective House, where it has served as birdbath; some sources attempted to establish its origin as the medieval church at Clady, but Roe (ibid.) states that "this ascription may well be correct, but cannot be considered certain". The font cosists of four pieces, at least one of which, an added underbowl, does not seem to belong to it: an octagonal basin with four plain sides and four decorated with: 1)shield with Latin cross; 2)four vine leaves in a knot; 3)human face (male?); 4)human face (female?); these heads are at opposite panels. Roe dates the basin to the 15th century. Described and illustrated in Pike (1989: 46) [We are grateful to Dr. Rachel Moss, and to Trinity College, Dublin, for the copy of Ms. Pike's work, and to Ms. Joan Pike for her kind permission to reproduce her original drawings]
