Country Name: Republic of Ireland
Location: Longford, Leinster
Directions to Site: Tagshinny is located off road R399, E of the N55, 6-7 km NE of Ballymahon
Century and Period: 13th century (?), Medieval
Church Notes: church may be medieval in origin; with a mention in 1220 and another in 1223 ["Church of Ireland church, built or rebuilt c. 1720 and rebuilt in 1784 and again c. 1825, comprising four-bay nave elevations to northwest and southeast and having single-bay gable-fronted entrance porch to the southwest gable end, added c. 1900. Possibly containing the fabric of early medieval and medieval churches" -- source NBHS entry # 13402329]
Pike lists this font as "inspected but not catalogued" (Pike, 1989). The Moxhams of Ireland site [https://moxhamireland.wordpress.com/2014/06/21/tashinny-church/] [accessed 12 February 2025] shows a very faint reproduction of a photograph captioned: "A photo of the Annaly Monument from a 1900 journal; the font which can barely be seen in front has since been replaced, although the remnants of it are still held in the church." The same site [cf. supra] mentions an Eliza Noble who had a font dedicated to her memory in 1917, which would make the font in the faint illustration earlier but, by the looks of it, certainly not ancient enough to be listed in BSI.
