Described and illustrated in Pike (1989: 54) as one of two fonts in this cathedral church [cf. Index entry for Limerick No. 2 for the medieval font in this church]: "The first font, of limestone or sandstone, has a central drain and is in use. The bowl is hemispherical, lined with lead and is supported by a central pedestal with four pods. An inscription in relief round the rim reads 'One Baptism for the Remission of Sins'. This font does not appear to be Medieval." [NB: this font is much in the style of the old English fonts at Roche and Bodmin, except that the outer columns of the base start, not at the upper rim but at the underbowl; the closest in shape is that of Catthorpe, Leicestershire. Pike [cf. supra] that "it does not appear Medieval".] [We are grateful to Dr. Rachel Moss, and to Trinity College, Dublin, for the copy of Ms. Pike's work, and to Ms. Joan Pike for her kind permission to reproduce her original drawings]
