Described in the Dictionnaire des églises... (1966- ) as a 16th century baptismal font ornamented with geometric motifs, originally from the old parish church at Echufflei. Described in Les siècles romans en Basse-Normandie (1985: p. 133, entry no. 366) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period ["cliché Moitet (Arch. de l'Orne)"] decorated with heads and mouldings in the crossbars. Listed and illustrated in Palissy [ref.: PM61000330]: " fonts baptismaux [...] The roughly cylindrical font is damaged at several spots of the underbowl; on the sides, as indicated in the sources above, is an area of geometric pattern that features a rectangle in which is an X with four balls in the spandrels; there is one large and crudely carved human face and, next to it, an animal (?) head or mask with long ears or horns, either an animal or a devil. [NB: we have not been able to locate recent images of the font; in Palissy's set the old basin appears placed on wooden planks on the ground]
