Described and illustrated in Pike (1989: 20) as one of "two Medieval fonts outside Freshford Roman Catholic Church, which are no longer in use. These fonts may have come from the ancient monastic Church, successor to one founded in 622 by Bishop St. Lachtan". This font, used now as holy-water stoup, "belongs to the Ossory group [...], is limestone and has a central drain. The decoration on two sides is roundheaded flutes and on the alternate two sides is Gothic arcades". This basin shows in Pike's drawing raised on a plain square pedestal base with trimmed or chamfered corners. [We are grateful to Dr. Rachel Moss, and to Trinity College, Dublin, for the copy of Ms. Pike's work, and to Ms. Joan Pike for her kind permission to reproduce her original drawings] [cf. Index entry for Freshford No. 2 for the second font serving as stoup outside this church]
