In his entry for St. Ann's Shandon church Windele (1849) notes: "On a plain font in this church is inscribed: 'Walte. Elington and William Ring, 1629. Made this Pant [sic] at their charges'". Described and illustrated in Pike (1989): "This font, which is late Medieval, is square, made of limestone, and is still in use. It has a blocked central drain. It is tripartite, with a reconstructed octagonal pedestal and octagonal base. The lead lining was added in 1773. There is an inscription on two faces with letters incised into the stone" [cf. Inscription area below]. The font is believed to be from St. Mary's, the medieval church destroyed in the siege of 1690, and moved to St. Ann's when it was erected in 1722.
