Cloyne No. 1 / Cluain

A font located in an "intercolumnation" of the south aisle is described in Windele (1849): "the font, a square stone basin, resting on a short column, and pedestal of similar form, without inscription or ornament." This may be the same one described and illustrated in Pike (1989), who encountered three baptismal fonts at St. Colman's, the "third font, in use, of a later period, is not Medieval. Of the Medieval fonts, the second font, made of limestone with a central drain, is square, bevelled, and grooved. There is no other decoration." Pike's illustration shows the square basin raised on a plain square pedestal base and a square graded lower base.
