Described and illustrated in Pike (1989: 41-42): Medieval octagonal font with central drain and still in use in the Cathedral Church of St. Brendan (C. of I.). This font, writes Pike, "differs considerably from the group of elaborately decorated octagonal fonts with figure carving and representations of the Apostles. St. Brendan's font is deeply chamfered, which indicates a later date, possibly the late 15th century. The designs in relief are abstract Celtic or La Tene design on the rim, with rising sun on one panel. Fronds or palm trees and La Tene spirals appear on the chamfer." The pedestal base has vertical ribs; stands on a plain square lower base that is modern. No cover present.
