Described and illustrated in Pike (1989: 26): "This original font of the Cathedral, the fabric of which goes back to the 12th century, is polished limestone, square and has a central drain. It is tripartite, has a round pedestal with four round pods, and a square plinth. The bowl [i.e., the inner well in this case] is cylindrical". [cf. Index entry for Old Leighlin No. 1 for a baptismal font of the Ossory group, originally from St. Mary's, Gowran, but in this cathedral since March 1986]
