Font Notes:
Cloquet (1890 and 1895) describes the square mounted Tournai font as almost identical to the font at Lincoln Minster, except that the capitals of the Deux-Acren font can be dated slightly later than those at Lincoln. Cloquet describes Deux-Acren as having all the Tournai characteristic elements. The ornamentation of the basin sides is somewhat like the one at Lincoln, with running lions, dragons, etc., but certainly not identical [NB: we have photographic evidence of three of the basin sides [cf. ImagesArea]: one side has three passant lions, the two on the left passant to the left, the one on the right, passant to the righ; another side has two birds, possibly doves, back to back; the third side has three quadrupeds passant to the left; they are rather cartoon-like in their endering, but one can make an act of faith and identify them as dragons; we have no access to the carving on the fourth side]. Enlart (1902) mentions a five-column base. Listed and illustrated in BALaT KIK-IRPA [https://balat.kikirpa.be/object/10039191] [accessed 20 April 2023] made between 1101 and 1200 of Tournai stone, the base partly restored; 93 cm tall. The wooden cover is flat, round and plain, with a large handle; modern.
