Fleury (1878-1882) writes of a group of fonts that have similar vine motifs: those at Corbeny, Erlon, Neuve-Maison and Nouvion-le-Vineux. Cloquet (1895) includes it among the round fonts of the Mosan type with four heads, at 90-degree angles, on the basin. Corblet (1881-1882) dates it to the 11th century and has an illustration in which each side of the basin has three roundels with foliage/fruit motifs on them; the base appears to be a cylindrical pedestal. Both Bond (1908) and Enlart (1902) have this font as Tournai-type but, since Bond had used Enlart as source, he cannot be considered a reliable source in this case. Enlart (ibid.) dates it to the 11-12th century. Listed in Palissy [ref.: PM02000323]: "fonts baptismaux [...] 11e siècle [...] Cuve circulaire. Illustrated in Mémoire [ref.: AP02W00840]. The web site of Mairie de Corbény [https://corbeny.fr/index.php/decouvrir-corbeny-28/lepatrimoine] [accessed 4 May 2024] notes: " Les fonts baptismaux. An undated drawing of the font in the Fonds Amédée Piette, in the Archives départementales de l'Aisne [8 Fi 494] [https://archives.aisne.fr/ark:/63271/vta52ae5741ff0d3c34] [accessed 4 May 2024] shows the font on its base, but the four outer colonnettes are missing. Photographs of the font taken in 2024 by Mark Lefevre show the full font, the repaired basin on a base consisting of a broad central shaft and four outer colonnettes; the metal cover is modern.
