Font Notes:
There is an entry for Wenhaston [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TM4275/wenhaston/] [accessed 13 April 2023]; it reports "1 church. 0.08 church lands" in it. Parker (1855) reports that the "font is P[erpendicular], and very poor." Noted in Cautley (1949) and (1982), who notes that the font had "the seven sacraments hacked from the panels early in the 19th century". Nichols (1994) cites David Elisha Davy's A Journal of Excursions through the County of Suffolk (1982) as the source for the fact "that the font still retained seven-sacrament sculpture in the early 19th c.", but she reports (ibid.) that the "bowl panels and shaft [are] filed smooth." Nichols (ibid.) dates the font "c. 1500?". The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: TM4249375475] notes: "Parish Church. Medieval, restored 1892 [...] C15 octagonal font, the panels defaced but with traces of original colour".
