Listed in Pérez Carmona (1974). Described and partially illustrated in Bilbao (1996) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period. The basin is actually almost cylindrical, slightly tapering upwards with a rounded underbowl; the sides are ornamented with a scene of the consecration of a baptismal font and/or the waters: a deacon holds up the consecration cross near the baptismal font; a priest holding a large book appears to bestow a blessing; a second deacon holds up the same book and a censer. Bilbao (ibid.) mentions two other fonts in this area, Cillamayor and Renedo de Valdavia, as having the scene of the consecration of the font/waters [a most beautiful Italian example of this period is the font at Vicofertile, in the Emilia-Romagna, with illustrated entry in BSI]. Squat round base rests on large circular plinth. Noted and illustrated in Valle Barreda (2009). The programme on this font is described by Mª José Martínez Martínez in the Enciclopedia del Románico en Castilla y León: "albergando una pila de grandes proporciones, 120 cm de diámetro x 88 cm de altura. The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed 16 April 2022] notes: "La pila es románica o visigótica, buena, de vaso con iconografía en relieve bajo arcos y base circular". On-site notes: hinges from an old font cover evident in the rim.
