Described in Bilbao (1996) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period from the same workshop as the font at Pineda de la Sierra and the one at the church of S. Antonio Abad in the city of Burgos [with illustrated entry in this Index]; the basin is decorated with ten large X-shaped motifs and a band of circles overimposed. The entry for this church in the Enciclopedia del románico [https://www.romanicodigital.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/files/burgos_URREZ.pdf] [accessed 6 April 2023] notes two fonts in this church: a 16th-century font now in use inside the church, and an older one of which only the basin remains, now raised on an carved piece of the 17th or 18th century and kept in the porch; this is the font described in Bilbao [cf. supra]: "dos pilas bautismales que se conservan en el templo. La actualmente en uso, guardada en el interior, se labró en el siglo XVI, pero en el exterior, bajo el pórtico, se encuentra otra de filiación más compleja. Se trata de un vaso hemisférico tallado en arenisca roja, de 48 cm de altura y 105 cm de diámetro. Su decoración parte de un bocelillo en la embocadura, al que sigue una cenefa de bezantes y cuerpo decorado con cruces y aspas, salpicadas ocasionalmente por otros bezantes. Actualmente se apoya sobre lo que parecen unas piezas de cornisa de los siglos XVII o XVIII. Su cronología, desde nuestro punto de vista, es muy dudosa. Garbiñe Bilbao la incluye dentro de su elenco de pilas románicas, poniéndola en relación con la de Pinedade la Sierra y con la que estuvo en la parroquia de la desaparecida localidad de Úzquiza, hoy en la iglesia capitalina de San Antonio Abad. A la misma tipología pertenece sin duda la de Brieva de Juarros y quizá haya que buscar también cierta relación con alguno de los elementos decorativos que aparecen en la de Villasur de Herreros. Todos estos son ejemplares que se localizan en la misma comarca, aunque de ellos quizá sólo el último citado muestra algunas características más claramente románicas."
