Scene Description: notice the damage to the upper rim and the metal plug visible here between the two grooves of the upper rim surface; also, the flaw in the centre column of the arcade looks more like a flaw in the stone than a carver's mistake

Described in Bilbao (1996) as a baptismal font of Romanesque period; the large hemispheric basin is ornamented with an arcade of round arches; the underbowl has ribbed pattern; the octagonal base has Greek cross motif inscribed in a circle. Noted and illustrated in Valle Barreda (2009). Listed in Sáinz Sáiz (1997). The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed 16 April March 2021] notes: "iglesia, dedicada a San Esteban, protomártir, gótica del siglo XV [...] La pila es románica con arcos y gallones con anillo circular y pie poligonal con relieves" [NB: this author mentions two other Romanesque sites in this village: the Ermita de San Cebrián and a former Benedictine female monastery founded in the 10thC, with fabric of 1197, now a hotel; the monastery had its own church, so both of these churches may have had fonts in them originally]. There is no cover present but the upper rim has at least one metal plug from a font cover anchoring; also, there is substantial damage on another spot of the rim probably related to another such.
