Described in Bilbao (1996) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period. The fonts at Cojobar, Madrigal del Monte, Mecerreyes, Zalduendo, Tornadijo, Valdorros, Villamayor de los Montes and Mazariegos are noted as sharing design, ornamentation and dating at the late-12th or early 13th century; the basin, partly embedded in the wall, is ribbed in the inside; the outside is ornamented with a rope moulding at the upper rim, of which very little remains, most of it broken off; below it are two rows of pellet or nail-head motif all around; below those is an arcade of round arch-heads; the spandrels of the arcade are decorated alternatively with palmettes and geometric motifs; on a plain circular base. It is unlikely that this font may have been intended to be in that position originally; it is now in very poor state of repair, with much damage to the upper rim and side decoration. There are traces of decorations carved on the upper surface of the rim, most of which has broken off. The dating given above may also be reconsidered in view of the carving of the basin interior, the concave ribbing pattern being usually found in fonts of the Gothic period. The font cover is modern.
