There is an entry for Freshford [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/ST7860/freshford/] [accessed 6 April 2023]; it mentions neither priest nor church in it. Lewis (1876) writes: "the font which is plain octagonal of the Decorated style." Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a baptismal font of the Early English period. Not mentioned in Pevsner (1958). The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: ST7897160159] notes: "Parish Church of St. Peter. C15th, C17th, C18th and restored c.1858-59 […] C14th/C15th octagonal font." The baptismal font consists of an octagonal basin with mostly plain sides, except for a moulding at the bottom; raised on an octagonal moulded stem, a square lower base and a rectangular plinth. Plain octagonal font cover. The basin shows a large insert of new stone and it as well as the rest of the font have undergone drastic re-tooling to the extent that it is difficult to discern now what the original surface was.
