Described in Bilbao (1996) and in Valle Barreda (2009) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period. The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed 6 April 2023] notes: "La pila es románica, buena, con cenefa vegetal en relieve y gallones, con pie cilíndrico y base circular". The font consists of a roughly hemispherical basin decorated with a broad band of vegetation between two parallel roll mouldings; the motifs is a well-executed acanthus vine that stems from the mouth of a mask, which is not easily identifiable as either human or animal; the underbowl has flat and broad ribs all around; the inner well of the basin is decorated with deep-groved concave ribbing and has a centre drain; the basin has a metal band all around and there are hook-ups on it for anchoring a font cover (not present); the basin is raised on a cylindrical pedestal base decorated with a poorly-executed two strand braid around it; the lower base is a round dome decorated with leaf and ball motifs around the top, and wide incised scallops on the sides. The font stands on a two-step plinth and is located inside the nave, near the south door and to the west of it. The font should be assigned to a later period [cf. supra][ on account of the flat ribs of the underbowl and the concave ribbing on the inside of the basin well.
