Described in Bilbao (1996) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period; the basin is ribbed inside and out; the underbowl has decoration of acanthus leaves and fruit; the same source describes the basin as having wooden-vat-like ornamentation ["aro y clavos"]; the round base has an inscription [cf. Inscription] which makes reference to a victory of a Castilian king over the pagans "IN ERA MCCLI" [i.e., 1213 A.D.]. Bilbao (ibid.) states that the king is Alfonso VIII and the victory is the battle of the Navas de Tolosa, which took place in 1212, and that the font is dated between July of 1212 and the same month of 1213. García Guinea (2004) states that this font served the model for the ones at Montorio and San Andrés de Monterados, which he dates to 1211 and 1214 ["Pila bautismal [...] modelo de otras (Montorio y San Andrés) ambas firmadas por un mismo maestro DOMINGO DE TERRADILLOS, datadas en 1211 y 1214"] [NB: if García Guinea is correct in his dating, the 'model' font would be dated to before 1211 and therefore the relation of the inscription to the Navas de Tolosa victory questionable].. The Enciclopedia del románico en Castilla y León (2002- ) [https://www.romanicodigital.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/files/burgos_TERRADILLOS_DE_SEDANO.pdf] [accessed 6 April 2023], in which it is described and illustrated, however, follows on Bilbao's line and names the Montearados font as a poor copy of this one. [NB: none of the above sources mentions it but there is least one human head among the motifs in the decorative vine -- cf. ImagesArea]. The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed 6 April 2023] notes two fonts here as well, but refers to the one inside as "renacentista" [i.e., Renaissance]; it also adscribes the dedication of the church to the wrong saint: "La iglesia está dedicada a Santa Eugenia". [cf. BSI entry for Terradillos de Sedano for a second font in this church]
