view of church interior - looking west
Scene Description: the Gothic retable hanging on the right [north] wall is a copy of the original, which was removed by the Arzobispado de Burgos for restoration, and then was located in the Museo del Retablo (Iglesia de San Esteban), Burgos; it was later moved to the parish church of San Martín de Porres, Burgos; the move appears to have been a controversial one, as noted in the Spanish press at the time [www.elmundo.es/elmundo/2011/09/22/castillayleon/1316679907.html] [accessed 28 December 2020]. The demand by the Arzobispado of a transfer of a valuable processional cross also from this church appears also to have generated similar controversy [www.diariodeburgos.es/Noticia/Z10DAE6C4-A099-5128-FE5AEE0C1FFC787D/201908/Tras-el-retablo,-el-Arzobispado-quiere--ahora-la-valiosa-cruz-de-Tañabueyes] [accessed 28 December 2020]

Listed in Pérez Carmona (1974). Described in Bilbao (1996). Noted and illustrated in Valle Barreda (2009), who mentions similarities with the fonts of Ciadoncha, Mazariegos [Madrid museum] y Palazuelos de Muño. The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed 6 April 2023] notes: "La pila es gótica, de copa, con estriados y pie cilíndrico". Baptismal font of the Romanesque period; the basin sides and underbowl are ornamented with a blind arcade of round arches on columns with capitals and bases [NB: one of the arcade supports was replaced by a triangular leaf or flower, perhaps a carver's whim?]; above, below the rim, two parallel grooves; the round base is plain; raised on a wide circular plinth.
