Described in Bilbao (1996) and in the Enciclopedia del románico en Castilla y León (2002- ) [https://www.romanicodigital.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/files/burgos_SANTA_OLALLA_DEL_VALLE.pdf] [accessed 5 April 2023] as a Romanesque baptismal font of the late 12th century, very similar to the ones at Fresneda de la Sierra, Eterna, Palacios de la Sierra, Pradilla de Belorado, Castrillo de la Reina, Canicosa de la Sierra, Moncalvillo de la Sierra, Huerta de Arriba, Villanueva de Carazo and Barbadillo de Herreros: the outside of the basin is ornamented with ribbed pattern below a wide vine and a narrow band of saw-tooth; there are two metal anchoring staples in the upper rim; the inside of the well has concave ribs; the upper base has torsade pattern, whereas the moulded lower base, part of which is partly hidden in the flooring, had originally ball motifs or claws at the angles, now much damaged or entirely broken off.
