Described in Bilbao (1996) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period. Described and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del románico en Castilla y León (2002- ) [www.romanicodigital.com/cedar/pila-bautismal-9596.aspx] [accessed 26 October 2020] and [https://www.romanicodigital.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/files/burgos_SANTA_MARÍA_TAJADURA.pdf] [accessed 5 April 2023]: "En su iglesia gótica, levantada a fines del siglo XIII o en el XIV, encontramos como único elemento románico la pila bautismal, de piedra arenisca roja veteada. Con una altura de 78,5 cm y un diámetro de 123 cm, está formada por un corto pie cilíndrico sobre el que se dispone un vaso cuya forma está a medio camino entre lo troncocónico y lo hemisférico, en el interior avenerado y con su cara externa decorada a base de 12 sencillos arcos de medio punto que descansan sobre un sogueado." The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed 2 February 2022] notes: "Su iglesia parroquial está dedicada a la Inmaculada Concepción, y es de estilo renacentista [...] La pila de bautismo es románica con arcos incisos, sencilla, en una cavidad cerrada con reja de forja moderna". The red sandstone basin is ornamented with a concave ribbed pattern on the inside; the outer sides are decorated with an arcade of twelve arches, below which runs a rope moulding; on a plain cylindrical base.
