Described in Bilbao (1996). Described and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del románico en Castilla y León (2002- ) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period; it is dated 1195 by an inscription on the upper surface of the basin rim; the basin is otherwise plain, raised on a modern stem on which have been re-used three lion protomes: one has a quadruped in its claws, another shows its head and front claws, and the third is almost completely broken off; the upper rim has two Latin inscriptions: one gives the name of abbot 'Dominicvs' and the date Era 1233 [i.e., 1195 A.D.]; the second inscription, much eroded, gives the date Era 1300 [i.e., 1262 A.D.]: "pila bautismal románica, instalada en el fondo de la nave septentrional y anteriormente protegida por una verja de madera. The same source gives the text of of the inscription on the rim of the font, "SUB ERAa MaCCXXXIII DOMINIICVS ABAS EMIT [ER]A MCCC CUADO FVIT" and its transcription: "Sub Era millesima ducentesima trigesima tertia, Dominicus abbas emit. Era millesima tricentesima cuando fuit…" and notes that the reference of the latter date mentioned in the inscription remains unknown [="Esta segunda fecha es una inclusión posterior en la inscripción inconclusa y con diferente tipo de escritura, sin que hayamos podido saber muy bien a que se refiere."] García Morilla (ibid.) remarks on the use of the verb 'emit' in the inscription, instead of the usual 'fecit', 'fecit facere', etc., a choice of term that suggests it was abbot Dominicus who selected the font and paid for it [="en el caso del texto de la pila bautismal, el abad Domingo afirma que él fue quien la compró. The font is raised on a wide two-step circular plinth. The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed 10 May 2021] notes: "su iglesia dedicada a San Julián y Santa Basilisa; es gótica [...] gran riqueza de capiteles románicos y canes al exterior [...]
