Described in Bilbao (1996). Noted and illustrated in Valle Barreda (2009). Noted in the Enciclopedia del Románico en Castilla y León. The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed 11 April March 2021] notes: "La pila es gótica con arcos imperfectos ycenefa vegetal y pie cilíndrico". Baptismal font of the late-Romanesque period; the hemispherical basin has foliage motifs with some animal details; the back of the basin has trefoiled floral or foliage motifs, a cross, a horse and a bird with open wings [cf. Author notes];unlike many of the fonts in the area, the one at Quintanilla del Agua does not have a well-defined band for the decorative vine, nor is there a real vine, but a collection of more-or-less related motifs; the same applies to the irregular arcade below: odd arches that encircle the lower part of the basin; some are shaped as fleur-de-lis. On a later-date base, round and moulded. On-site notes: iron staples from the old cover are still evident in the upper basin rim. An original work, if still within the decorative plan of the fonts of this area; 13th century? later? [NB: there is a stone object in the village square, now used as a decorative planter, that could at a stretch be worth looking at in detail; it is roughly cylindrical, the surface much worn and eroded; if it were a font, could it be the original of te11th-century church here?]
