Described in Bilbao (1996). Noted and illustrated in Valle Barreda (2009), with date in the early-13th century. The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed 29 March 2023] notes: "La pila es románica con arcos en relieve, tipo piscina, poligonal". Baptismal font of the Romanesque period; monolithic tub-shaped dodecagonal (?) basin ornamented with twelve double arches which rest on paired columns; some (seven?) of the arches contain incised crosses; stands directly of a circular plinth. Valle Barreda (ibid.) mentions similarities between the fonts at Cilleruelo de Arriba, Pinilla-Trasmonte and Santa Maria de Mercadillo. The font is rather irregular; while some sides are practically vertical the back is definitely cut a a diagonal angle, surely a flaw of the original block not corrected in the cutting; the sides are carved with an arcade of round arches, with a tendency to horse-shoe shape; the arche-heads rest on thin shafts -a few are double columns- with simple capitals and bases; the irregular backside is also damaged towards the base, and has been crudely repaired with cement. There are two old metal staples at the upper rim, but there is no cover present now. The incised crosses appear to be a later addition, not part of the original carving.
