Described in Bilbao (1996) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period from the same workshop as the font at Urrez and the one at the church of San Antonio Abad in the city of Burgos [with illustrated entry in this Index]. The bucket-shaped basin is decorated with a band of plain circles below a thin roll moulding at the upper rim, the sides and underbowl with a pattern that resembles saltire crosses or criss-crossing zig-zags; on a round lower base. [NB: Bilbao (ibid.) describes the base as square but the basin is raised now on a round base; has it been replaced since 1996?. Described in Palomero Aragón (1999) as a baptismal font in the Romanesque style. Described and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del románico en Castilla y León (2002- ) [https://www.romanicodigital.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/files/burgos_PINEDA_DE_LA_SIERRA.pdf] [accessed 29 March 2023]: "La pila bautismal, labrada en una piedra arenisca propiade la zona (111 cm de diámetro × 65 cm de altura), presenta copa troncocónica decorada con círculos y temas aspados." The font is now located in an alcove of the north wall, at the east end of the nave, unlikely to be its original position. The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed 29 March 2023] notes: "La pila es románica, con aspas en relieve". There are two holy-water pedestal stoups on the steps of the south portal, perhaps 16th-century or later.
