Font Notes:
Described in Bilbao (1996) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period. Both sources give the fonts at Arcellares del Tozo, Barrio Panizares and Basconcillos del Tozo as cognates. The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed March 2023] notes: "La pila es románica con gallones, anillo, avenerada por dentro, pie cilíndrico y base cuadrada con cabezas." The font consists of a hemispherical basin adorned with broad ribbed pattern on the ouside, overimposed on which runs a band of interlace with circles inserted; the basin interior is decorated with concave ribbing; raised on a plain cylindrical stem and a lower base consisting of a thick roll moulding with curled leaves over a square volume. There is damage to the upper rim of the basin, in which still remain two metal staples of the old cover; further damage to the lower base as well. No cover present. [NB: a replica copy of the old baptismal font appears to have been made recently [ca. 2020?] and is said to be located in the nearby 13th-century Ermita de Villaux [formerly Villahús], in the abandoned hamlet of that name, near Pedrosa del Páramo]
