Described in Bilbao (1996 ) as a second Romanesque baptismal font in this village. Lojendio (1985) was obviously not impressed with this font and simply mentions a primitive style font with square plinth. Described and illustrated in Valle Barreda (2009), as simpler than, but much in the style of, the font at the sister church of San Miguel, in the same village. It is noted and illustrated in Garma Ramírez [www.arteguias.com/burgos/neila-burgos.htm], with cognates also in Hacinas (Burgos prov.) and Ledesma de la Cogolla (La Rioja). Baptismal font consisting of a roughly hemispherical basin decorated with a well-executed acanthus vine below a faint rim moulding; beaded line below; the underbowl has a number of bands [six? / seven?] of over-imposed leaves forming a scalloped pattern; broad centre ring moulding decorated with foliated pattern; the truncated-cone shaped base has a pattern of over-imposed stylised leaves forming a scalloped pattern redolent of the one on the underbowl above, but much more geometrical, practically triangular, with the tips in the opposite direction, downwards; the square lower base has saw-tooth motif on the upper surface, and fish-bone pattern on the sides. The decorative programme is somewhat related to the one on the font at San Miguel, in the same town; the major difference in the general work is that this font has the inner well of the basin patterned with concave ribbing. The damage to the side of basin may have been related to the metal staples of the old font cover.
