Described in Bilbao (1996: 284 et al.) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period; the basin is ribbed inside and out; the outer side has multi-lobed arches; underneath, Greek potent cross inside a circle and some astral motifs. The base has two protruding ring mouldings and zig-zag motif. The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed 17 January 2022] notes: "Su iglesia, dedicada a Santa María Magdalena, es gótica [...] portada románica cegada [...] La pila es románica, buena, con gallones en borde y arcos con lóbulos en la copa y pie cilíndrico moldurado". [NB: though both above sources describe this font as "románica" the shape of the arcade around the basin and the inner concave tib pattern suggest a later period]. No entry found for this Montuenga in the Enciclopedia del románico [www.romanicodigital.com].
