Listed in Pérez Carmona (1974). Described and partially illustrated in Bilbao (1996). Noted and illustrated in Valle Barreda (2009) with date in the mid-13th century. Noted in the Enciclopedia del Románico en Castilla y León. In the entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed 22 March 2023], however, the font is described as Renaissance: "La pila es renacentista con relieves de animales, avenerada". The rim of the basin has eight lobes which continue towards the inside; outer sides show monstruous animals face to face amid fruit laden vines: a male centaur; a female centaur, bow and quiver pointing her arrow at a bird; two male sirens part bird, part reptile; two dragons chewing on bunches of grapes; another dragon; another such; two more bird-sirens; a gazelle-like animal with two legs and the tail of a reptile; a lion; a griffin; the cylindrical base has four half-columns attached [constructional?], false capitals made up of trefoils; the square lower base has convex mouldings. On-line notes: old iron staples from the cover still evident in the upper rim; major damage to one of the sides of the font affecting the iconographical program; the inner basin well is octafoiled, which, together with some of the motifs on the outer basin sides, brings the font rather into the Gothic period. No cover present but the upper rim of the basin has metal staples from on old cover system.
