Font Notes:
Described in Bilbao (1996) as an interesting example of Romanesque font in the region: to the arcade ornamentation so common in this area it adds a number of rampant birds [NB: Bilbao (ibid.) refers to them as doves in another reference and concentric spheres, as well as bunches of grapes and ears of wheat; the base has bands of twist motif; the square lower base has ball motifs and double arches on all sides. Noted in Valle Barreda (2009), who mentions a fish on the side of the font, between the birds. The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed 21 March 2023] notes: "Tiene su iglesia dedicada a San Martín, obispo, y es renacentista con restos románicos […] This baptismal font, now in a late Gothic-Renaissance church, may be from a previous church. [NB: if the basin is Romanesque, and that would be quite a stretch to take, considering the shape of the basin and base, the motifs, the shape of the inner well, etc., the whole font is then a composite object, with a later base. The font shows damage to the upper rim.
