Church Notes: original church 12thC; modified 15thC; greatly renovated late-17thC
Described in Bilbao (1996) and in Valle Barreda (2009); baptismal font of the Romanesque period; the basin has a vine of pointed leaves and a ribbed pattern below; stubby base; the large square plinth has a round moulding with arches, balls at the angles, and a freeze of romboid motif with quatrefoiled flowers. Listed and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del romanico [https://www.romanicodigital.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/files/burgos_HOYUELOS_DE_LA_SIERRA.pdf] [accessed 21 March 2023] as a good baptismal font in the in the style of the Sierra region: "En el interior, al fondo de la nave y protegido por una reja de madera, se conserva un notable ejemplar de pila bautismal románica que sigue el modelo más extendido en la Sierra: copa semiesférica ornada con un bocel en la embocadura, banda de zarcillos aquí muy simplificados y carnosos y piso inferior gallonado. Se alza sobre tenante compuesto de brevísimo pilar cilíndrico, basa que ya ha eliminado la escocia y se forma de dos toros, el inferior aplastado, decorado con semibezantes y garras con bolas y altísimo plinto cúbico con banda de rombos en los que se inscriben tetrapétalas de botón central. Mide 98 cm de diámetro × 102 cm de altura total." El pie es apenas perceptible pero presenta una basa con paralelepípedo, con caras laterales decorada con la rosa de los vientos enmarcada en rombos y en la parte superior unos frutos en los ángulos. Nos parece una obra de la misma mano que quien hiciera la de Vizcaínos. Las dimensiones son 98 cms. de diámetro por 102 cms. de altura."
