Described in Bilbao (1996). Noted and illustrated in Valle Barreda (2009), who suggests a stylistic link between the fonts at Fuentelisendo, Hontangas, Moradillo de Roa [No.1] and Torregalindo. The font here is listed and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del romanico [https://www.romanicodigital.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/files/burgos_HONTANGAS.pdf] [accessed 21 March 2023]: "La pila bautismal, también románica, es de piedra caliza. Está a los pies de la nave del evangelio, mide 128 cm de diámetro por 74 de altura y 13 de embocadura. Se apoya sobre un [sic] ancha basa lisa y exteriormente muestra una cenefa lisa bajo la que se disponen doce gallones, muy desarrollados, entre los que aparecen distintas cabecitas, algunas humanas y otras de toros." The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed 21 March 2023] notes: "iglesia, dedicada a San Juan Bautista, barroca […] La pila es románica con gallones muy acusados y mascarones". Baptismal font of consisiting of a roughly hemispherical basin with a wide flat moulding at the top and very broad deeply-carved ribs below; between the ribs, at the top, are six human heads, three horned animal heads and three masks or grotesque heads now badly eroded; crude round squat base. On-site notes: a crude work; metal staples from an old cover evident in the rim. [cf. BSI entry for Hontangas No. 2 for a medieval holy-water stoup in this church].
