cleric - with book and hissop or censer
Scene Description: the object in the right hand is partly broken off, and tentatively identified here as a hissop of, more likely, a censer; the rectangular object close to the figure's chest appears to be a book -- notice also the capital in the top right angle of the image; only these three arches have carved capitals and bases, however damaged now

Described and partially illustrated in Bilbao (1996). Noted and illustrated in Valle Barreda (2009). Noted and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del Románico en Castilla y León. Burgos (vol. IV: 2783). Baptismal font of the Romanesque period; the sides of the basin are ornamented with an arcade of [11?] round arches; only three of the arches contain images and these are facing the back wall and therefore of difficult visual and camera access: 1) a possible baptismal scene in which the priest holds a processional cross and jug next to a baptismal font which has a child inside; standing next to it are 2)a bishop (?) with his staff and 3)a priest holding a hissop or censer and book; Latin cross; plain round base; on a modern square plinth. The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed 21 March 2023] notes: "iglesia dedicada a San Pedro, Apóstol, gótica […] con añadidos renacentistas", but, uncharacteristically, does not mention a font in it. On-site notes: the figural sides of the basin are against the wall and were therefore inaccessible to our cameras at the time of the visit [28 May 1999]; they are very eroded; the other arches of the arcade are blank; metal staples are evident in the upper rim but there is no font cover present.
