Church Notes: 13th-14thC church; much modified 18thC
Described and illustrated in Bilbao (1996) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period. Described in the Enciclopedia del románico en Castilla y León (2002- ); the bucket-shaped basin is ornamented with concave ribbed pattern on the inside; the outer side has four wide bands of zig-zag motif; the basin rests on a large round lower base. The Enciclopedia… suggests a date in the late 13th or early century:"en el fondo de la nave del evangelio, un bello ejemplar de pila bautismal tardorrománica. Presenta copa troncocónica gallonada en su interior y exteriormente decorada con bocel en la embocadura y dos bandas ornadas con dientes de sierra, entre las que se dispone una cuidada trama de zigzag con incisiones alternas. Apea sobre un basamento circular de chaflán y listel. La copa mide 111 cm de diámetro × 60 cm de altura, y la base 28 cm de altura."
