Described in Bilbao (1996): as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period. Described in the Enciclopedia del románico en Castilla y León (2002- ), which indicates similarities between the fonts at Bañuelos del Rudrón, Grijalba, Villegas, Villamayor de Treviño, La Piedra, Villasandino, Rebolledo de Traspeña y Los Valcárceres; the basin has a background pattern of broad ribs over which are superimposed two bands of interlace; the upper band is a three-strand braid; the lower one is a thre-brand wave, the blanks filled with palmette motifs; at the upper peaks of the wave are little knotted ropes; the round base on which it is raised is badly damaged and worn, on which Bilbao (ibid.) identifies a lion devouring a snake on one of the sides. The Enciclopedia… (ibid.) notes that the font was moved from its original position at the north side of the west end, where the old plinth still remains, to the present position at the west end of the central nave.
The general shape of the font and the double ribbed pattern, inside and outside, would suggest a dating into the Gothic period.
