Described and illustrated in Bilbao (1994) as a medieval baptismal font; the basin is octagonal and ornamented with a crudely executed garland with curled ends around the sides; the underbowl is rounded and plain; the stem of the base appears cylindrical and totally plain. Bilbao (ibid.) cites entries in the Catálogo Monumental de la Diócesis de Vitoria. Also described and illustrated in Bilbao's later work on Romanesque fonts (1996: fig. 1, p. 280 et al.). The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed 16 March 2021] notes: "iglesia dedicada a la Asunción de Nuestra Señora [...] de principios del siglo XVII [...] La pila es posiblemente medieval, de vaso, octagonal con decoración de tallos en espiral". The font consists of an octagonal basin decorated a moulding at the upper rim and a crude vine around the panels below; the underbowl is rounded and plain; the pedestal base appears octagonal; the inner basin is octagonal but with a rounded bowl that has a drain hole in it. There is no cover present but the upper rim retains a single metal staple in it. Although the above sources describe this font as medieval it is hard to place it in a particular century or period; it is a very crudely done work, very likely by the hands of local mason, and it always unwise the date a work as ancient based on the lack of skill, as Bond (1908) often warned.
