Described in Bilbao (1996) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period; the ribs of the sides end up in heads (eleven human, one monstruous) or palmette- (hand?) like motifs.
On-site notes: the second of two fonts in the church of San Pedro at Fuentelisendo, this one is originally from nearby Corcos; it now stands beneath the west gallery and is used as the regular baptismal font. It is also hemispherical mounted, like the other [cf. Index entry for Fuentelisendo No. 1], but the heads and palmettes are here where the vine is on the other font; the heads appear to be mostly human, some female, and are carved aligned with the thick ribs below, so that the ribs appear to be their bodies, in some cases; only one appears to have an well-defined upper bofy with a priestly garment; the arch-heads over the heads are round; some of the spandrels of this arcade have incised motifs resembling plants or flowers, but they may be a later addition. The font is not well shaped, its volumes rather irregular; the base is moulded and is not well centered in relation to the basin. No cover present but metal staples from an earlier cover are evident in the upper rim. There is an interesting legend told by the locals about how this font came to this village: it seems there was a snake invasion in Corcos and the villagers had to abandon their homes; after that the village became deserted and eventually the font was moved out of the abandoned church. Noted and illustrated in Valle Barreda (2009), who suggests a stylistic link between the fonts at Fuentelisendo, Hontangas, Moradillo de Roa [No.1] and Torregalindo; also to the one originally from Corcos, now in the church at Fuentelisendo as well.
