Described in Pérez Carmona (1974). Favreau (1985) gives the date of the font as 1225 without mention of the 'era' date conversion factor [A.D. + 38 years] [NB: Favreau gives the name of the place as "Fresnada"]. Guerra (1986 c1978) points out the value of the garland as symbol of the waters. Described in Bilbao (1996), who relates the base of this font to those of the fonts at Santa Olalla del Valle, Palacios de la Sierra, Pradilla de Belorado and others. Both Bilbao and Favreau cite José Pérez Carmona's "Arquitectura y escultura románicas en la provincia de Burgos" (Burgos, 1974: 49-50). Described and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del románico en Castilla y León (2002- ), which points out that the fonts at Eterna and Barbadillo de los Herreros have cery similar inscriptions and may be from the same workshop; the sandstone font consists of a hemispherical basin ribbed inside and out; the outer side has also an ondulating garland or vine and bears an inscription with the Era date of 1225 [i.e., AD 1187] and a text that makes reference to the salvific nature of baptism; on a round base with torsade pattern; the basin retains two staples of the old cover. On the inscription: Bilbao (1996) uses Pérez Carmona's translation; the Historia del arte de Castila y Leon (1994-1998) adds the word "PENITUS" and does not include the word "ERA". The Enciclopedia del románico en Castilla y León (2002- ) offers: "MCCXXV : MAT[ri]s : PECCATV[m] : NOBIS : AB ORIGINA : NATV[m] HOC: E[st] : ABLATV[m] : PENIT[vs] : [quo]QUE : FONTE FVGA[tvm]". The Enciclopedia del románico en La Rioja (2008) notes that similar inscriptions are found on the fonts at Grañón and Santurde, in Rioja, and those at Barbadillo de Herrera [sic], Eterna and Fresnedo de la Sierra [sic], in Burgos province. [i.e., Fresneda de la Sierra Tiron and Barbadillo de los Herreros]. The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed 26 October 2021] notes: "Su iglesia, renacentista de buena construcción, está dedicada a la Asunción de Nuestra Señora [...] la pila es románica, de 1178 [sic -- ie., 1187], con cenefa con decoración vegetal y gallones y pie sogueado cilíndrico".
