Noted and illustrated in Roosval (1918) as a baptismal font of the Gothic period. Baptismal font probably of the 13th century made of Bamberg sandstone; it appears monolithic, of general cylindrical shape but tapering slightly towards the base; just below the upper rim is a vine motif all around; the sides of the basin are decorated with an arcade of pointed arches, with trefoiled intrados, supported in simple columns and bases, each arch containing a standing figure, at all appearances an apostle or saint; the lower base or plinth is short and appears round-to-octagonal in shape. The report on the acquisition of a new baptismal dish in OM-online [https://www.om-online.de/om/marienbildnis-schmuckt-bald-bakumer-pfarrkirche-94706] [accessed19 March 2023] elaborates on the different identification of the figures, not eight apostles, as earlier suggested, but the Baptism of Christ by John, the Four Evangelists and St. Paul: "Bislang sei übrigens davon ausgegangen worden, dass der Taufstein aus dem 15. The font was treated for algae and lichen infestation in 1983; the stone was identified as Bamberg sandstone of the 13th century, with repair stone adtions of a later date; the full restoration treatment included cleaning, crack closure, desalination, stone replacement and joint work; a report of that treatment, under the title "Sanierung des Taufbeckens in der St. Johannes Kirche in Bakum" is publicly available [www.baufachinformation.de/denkmalpflege/Sanierung-des-Taufbeckens-in-der-St-Johannes-Kirche-in-Bakum/1988017124298] [accessed 5 September 2014].
