GET PICS OF ERMITA (FORMER PARISH CHURCH) https://www.romanicodigital.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/files/burgos_CUEVAS_DE_AMAYA.pdf OR https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ermita_de_Nuestra_Se%C3%B1ora_de_Camporredondo_-_Cuevas_de_Amaya.jpg Noted in Bilbao (1996) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period. Described and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del románico en Castilla y León (2002- ) [https://www.romanicodigital.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/files/burgos_CUEVAS_DE_AMAYA.pdf] [accessed 16 March 2023] as a baptismal font is located in a strange position now, as it has been placed in the threshold of an old door in the north wall of the nave, half of the font inside the church, the other half protruding on the outside of this north wall and covered now in a walled compartment when seen from the exterior of the church; the font is of the bucket-type design common in the Burgos-Palencia area, but the motifs inscribed in the arcade of round arches are most uncommon and intriguing; of the five arches visible from the interior, one is a castle or tower, one resembles a blade-like motif, another a pick-axe, one has seven bars or lines, and the fifth is blank; we have no information on what the other arches -the Enciclopedia... suggests there could be twelve in total- have, as they are hidden in the embedded area; the upper rim has a moulding and there are grooves on the top surface; the Enciclopedia… further notes that the interior of the basin has been re-tooled: "pila bautismal, ubi-cada en el muro norte, en el hueco de una antigua portada posteriormente cegada. There is a half-cover, hinged at the wall end; appears modern. Also described in the Enciclopedia del románico (ibid.) is the nearby Ermita de Nuestra Señora de Camporredondo, believed to have been the former parish church replaced by the present one that was built lower down the hill sides in the 16th-17th century [NB: it is therefore quite possible that the medieval font now in Santa Ana may have been the original one of this ermita].
