Described in Bilbao (1996) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period. Described and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del románico [https://www.romanicodigital.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/files/burgos_CUBILLO_DEL_CÉSAR.pdf: ] [accessed 16 March 2023]: "pila bautismal románica, de 115 cm de diámetro y 102 cm de altura. La copa, de forma troncocónica, se decora en la parte superior con un zarcillo de hojas y frutos muy estilizados y el resto con las características arcadas ciegas que sirven de marco a distintos motivos escultóricos. En las enjutas se colocan también motivos florales. El pie tiene motivo funicular." The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed 16 March 2023] describes the church as Transitional, with a Romanesque font: "La pila bautismal es también románica". The upper side of the tub-shaped basin has a well-executed acanthus vine all around; below, there is an arcade of round arches housing several motifs: six-petal flower, fleur-de-lys, encircled pattée cross, crescent moon, another flower, five-pointed star, Greek cross; some arches have staves in them that share the space with the above-mentioned symbols; some of the staves have rounded tops, others are pointed; the spandrels of the arcade are decorated with individually styled vegetal motifs; the base has a torus-scotia combination at the top, and a rope moulding around its middle. No cover present.
