Listed in Pérez Carmona (1974). Described in Guerra (1986 c1978), who comments on the symbolism of the serpent on this font. Described in Bilbao (1996). Described and illustrated in Valle Barreda (2009), with date in the mid-12th century. Large hemispherical basin decorated with a rope motif at the upper rim; arcade of round narrow arches resting on columns with capitals and bases on the ouside; some of the arches contain inscribed six-petal flowers, another has an inscribed Greek potent cross; the spandrels of the arcade inscribe palmettes; concave ribbing carved on the inside of the bowl; wide circular lower base has a moulding in the form of a serpent biting its tail; above it, the remaining legs of a lost quadruped; on a cound plinth. The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed 27 January 2021] reports: "La pila es románica, avenerada, con arcos con capitel, cruces, sogueado y serpiente en la base". The entry for this church in Cultura Burgos [https://cultura.burgos.es/sites/default/files/file/page/CIADONCHA - Iglesia de la Asuncin de Ntra. Seora.pdf] [accessed 27 January 2021] notes: "Pila bautismal románica. [NB: the concave rib pattern on the inside of the basin of this font suggests a later date, probably 13th-century]. There is no cover present but one metal staple from a cover anchoring remains in the upper rim.
