Described in Bilbao (1996). Noted and illustrated in Valle Barreda (2009) as Romanesque, despite the Mozarabic arches and the square shape. Noted and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del Romanico[...] with possible associations, at least stylistically, to the monastery of San Juan de Duero, and gives its possible provenance as the Ermita [rural church] de Nuestra Señora del Carmen, also in Castrovido. The Enciclopedia [...] further notes that the ax carving is indicative of a date well into the Romanesque, despite the horseshoe arcade of Mozarabic memory; it is also remarked that the lower finish may be a later re-carving.
The font consists of a quadrangular basin on four short legs that are extensions of the angles of the cube; the super-imposed intersecting horseshoe arches are large, some of them damaged; the inside of the basin well is also square; as noted in the Enciclopedia above, the four crude legs carved out of the bottom of the basin is probably a later alteration. No cover present
