Described in Bilbao (1996: 103, 275) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period; the lower part of the bowl sides are adorned with ten prominent flower petals. Bilbao (ibid.: 103 fn113) gives the font at Castellò de Farfanya, in the province of Lerida [cf. Index entry] as somewhat similar. Bilbao's "flower petals" are really shaped like large saw-teeth, giving the basin the look of an artichoke; plain cylindrical pedestal base. No cover present, nor are there any evident marks of a cover in the upper rim. A local source [http://castrillosolarana.es/pages/iglesia.html] [accessed 22 June 2019] suggests the font may be a composite object, the basin perhaps brought in from a nearby church: "Parece que la pila bautismal era también románica y ha podido trasladarse la parte superior a otro pueblo próximo sin permiso (aprovechando alguna obra en esta iglesia), lo cierto es que se aprecia claramente la piedra diferente del pié y la pila de la actual, y tampoco coincide la descripción antigua pila." The other possibility is that the basin has either been re-cut or actually belongs to a later date, perhaps the 15th century. The entry for this church in the Enciclopedia del romanico mentions no font in it. The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed March 2023] notes: "interesante iglesia dedicada a San Pedro, Apóstol, románico-renacentista [...] El ábside es románico, del siglo XIII [...] la portada es románica, de discípulos del segundo artista de Silos [...] La pila es románica, con triángulos en relieve en su copa."
