Described in López Mata (1966: 312), in Pérez Carmona (1974: 123), in Guerra (1986 c1978: 84 fn42), in Rico (1994: 402ff), in Bilbao (1996: fig. 86, p. 273 et al.), in López Martínez (2004: 30). Baptismal font of the late Romanesque or Early Gothic period, could be as early as the late 12th century. The large basin has a multi-lobed rim; the 12 sides have blind round arches alternating with pointed ones which contain the figures of the twelve Apostles; the spandrels contain 3-petal flowers; a rope motif band separates the basin from a large round plinth decorated with roll mouldings. On-site notes: there are two crowns carved on the underbowl; also, evidence of old hinges on the upper rim; the underbowl, which originally had full decoration is much damaged and little of the decoration survives; the lower base appears modern; next to the font was a bucket-shaped vessel of stone with a cover resembling a smaller font, but we were not allowed access to investigate it. [NB: the font has been considerably cleaned and restored after our 1997 visit and before 2014].
