Font Notes:
The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed March 2023] notes: "iglesia, dedicada a San Julián y Santa Basilisa, de una nave con capillas laterales, con cabecera del siglo XVI más alta, pero con el resto románico [...] la pila es también románica, avenerada por dentro y por fuera". Described in Bilbao (1996) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period. Described in the Enciclopedia del románico en Castilla y León (2002- ) ; baptismal consisting of a hemispherical basin ribbed both inside and out, raised on a round pedestal base [NB: the illustration of the interior of the church in the Enciclopedia… shows a font (?) by the south entrance, at the west end of the nave; is it another one? A stoup? It has a wooden cover and resembles a later and smaller design of font]. The font is round tapering towards the bottom, which is considerably narrower than the top; the outside of the basin has a deeply-carved convex ribbed pattern on the outside, while the inside matches it with a concave ribbed pattern of similar depth; central drain now plugged with a metal rod and handle; on a squat circular base. The wooden cover is a crude affair, a round and flat platform with radial planks nail to the top; it has a metal ring handle. The font is probably 13th- or 14th-century, the deeply-carved convex ribbing a later development than the original date of the church itself, which underwent modifications in the Gothic and later periods
