No entry found for North Hinksey in the Domesday survey. A letter to the editor in The Gentleman's Magazine (issue of May 1817: 393) on the Church of North Hiksey notes: "The font is of the age of Charles II [I.e., 1660-1685] and has no pretensions to notice." The Victoria County History (Berkshire, vol. 4, 1924) notes: "Down to the 18th century the church of North Hinksey was a chapel to Cumnor. [...] It must have existed in early Norman times, but the first mention of it that has been found is in a confirmation made in 1401 [...] The side walls of the nave are largely of 12th-century date [...] In the tower are a portion of the old font and the head of a 13th or 14th-century cross." The English Heritage [Listing NGR: SP4948305479] (1966) entry for North Hinksey notes: "C15 octagonal font has finely-carved Decorated blind tracery". In Smith (1976).
